Teaching & Instruction Competencies

Good teachers might be both masters of research-based pedagogical technique, and capable of personally charismatic, creative and imaginative engagement.

This competency is intended to ensure that I am prepared to assume the role of teacher and mentor in a university setting and other educational and training contexts. Artifact Ten is my Philosophy of Teaching statement. This document summarizes my perspectives in education, and reflects my outlook on life as well, based on the values I uphold and act upon. Although it is a completed document, my quest nevertheless continues to determine what philosophy of life I shall uphold, and what would be the resulting changes to my philosophy of teaching. Artifacts Eleven and Twelve are course outlines I designed for university-level courses that I have been given the opportunity to teach as a doctoral student in the B.Ed. program at MSVU. Upon reflection, I see these two documents as fortunate juxtapositions of both theoretical—through design—and practical—via teaching.  Artifact Thirteen relates to my doctoral assistantship work during which I have co-facilitated a Graduate Writing Group to support graduate students as they develop their academic writing skills.
